Educational Resources on Functional & Developmental Vision
Vision is more than 20/20.
This is where the neuroscience behind reading, attention, concussion recovery, dizziness, and everyday vision gets explained clearly — for parents trying to understand a diagnosis, teachers noticing something's off in the classroom, clinicians looking for a next step, and anyone curious how vision actually works.
Created by Dr. Justin Chelette, OD, FAAO — a residency-trained developmental optometrist who has spent his career teaching this material to patients and clinicians alike.
Who This Is For
Find your starting point
Whatever brought you here, there's a direct path to it.
Understand a diagnosis
Plain-language explanations of what's actually going on, written to make sense the first time you read them.
See the classroom connection
How vision quietly shapes reading, attention, and performance in students who seem to be struggling for no clear reason.
Go deeper, clinically
Clinical articles, the podcast, and structured coursework covering what optometry school often leaves out.
Why This Exists
The field has a knowledge gap. This is one way to close it.
Optometry school teaches you to measure the eye. It spends far less time on how the brain interprets what the eye sends it — the piece that actually determines whether a patient can read fluently, track a moving target, or sit through a school day without a headache. See It Differently exists to put that neuroscience in front of the people who need it: the practicing OD looking for a next diagnosis, the student who wants more than the boards require, and the parent trying to understand why glasses alone didn't fix things.
